Carnegie Foundation reaffirms the UW’s leadership in community‑engaged scholarship

Image of the three UW campusesThe University of Washington has been reclassified across all three campuses with the Carnegie Foundation Community Engagement designation, recognizing the depth and impact of its partnerships with local, regional, and global communities. This distinction places UW among 277 institutions nationwide noted for centering community assets and addressing societal challenges through sustained collaboration.

The reclassification builds on the UW’s initial 2020 designation and reflects expanded infrastructure, coordinated tri‑campus efforts and partnerships with more than 700 community organizations. University leaders emphasized that community engagement is central to UW’s public mission, advancing student learning, equitable outcomes and meaningful community‑driven change across Washington state and beyond.
